Cannabis In Thailand: How Illegal Imports Could Be Poisoning You

Imported Cannabis Is Not Always Better

California and Canada. These are two places known for quality medical cannabis. You can find Californian and Canadian cannabis all over Thailand. Forget the fact that it is illegal to import cannabis even for commercial use, the most important thing you most know is that you may be poisoning yourself.

Cannabis absorbs, with great efficiency, contaminants in its environment such as heavy metals like lead and cadmium, as well as contaminated pesticides or chemicals that have been intentionally fed, such as cancer causing synthetic PGRs (Plant Growth Regulators) that black market growers use to increase yield. What does black market growers have to do with cannabis that comes from North America? Well, the State authorities in the U.S. as well as Federal authorities in Canada have been fighting illegal black market grows for years. Despite legalization in multiple States in the U.S. and federally in Canada, criminal elements in those markets have been running an alarming number of black market grow operations all throughout the last decade. Black market grows thrive by circumventing legal and compliance requirements designed to protect you from heavy metals, molds, contaminants, pesticides, and carcinogens. The cannabis may have been grown directly into the ground on land that has been contaminated by nearby factories and thus not suited for agricultural use. Even if the cannabis was grown in pots, the soil may come from low cost, contaminated and untested sources and the plants may have been fed low cost, untested fertilizers that have been contaminated with heavy metals. According to scientific research, the absorption of these heavy metals and contaminants present in unregulated, untested, black market cannabis by inhalation is 100%.

The cannabis that is most likely to leave the shores of North America and land in Thailand is not the regulated, tested and certified as safe cannabis sitting on shelves in dispensaries across the U.S. and Canada. The illegally imported cannabis found in Thailand may be grown by gardeners who were lured from Asian countries into the U.S. and Canada under false pretenses, only to find themselves trapped in employment bondage. They use fertilizers and chemicals sourced by black market operators who care nothing about your health.

To be fair, could some of the imported cannabis come from good sources that are safe for your health? Yes, probably some. But how could you ever be sure?

In the last 15 months, Thailand’s impassioned cannabis industry has grown leaps and bounds both in its size and in the collective knowledge and experience of the people that contribute to the industry. The quality of the best cannabis grown in Thailand is comparable to the best cannabis grown elsewhere. So, support Thai growers by asking for locally grown cannabis the next time you head to a dispensary, you would really be doing yourself and your health the greatest favor.
